UW-Eau Claire's Amici Tops All-WIAC Women's Volleyball Team

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Liz Amici was chosen the Player of the Year to top the 12 individuals that were selected to the 2011 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Volleyball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Stevens Point’s Stacey White received the Coach of the Year honor.

Amici has played in 33 of 34 matches and leads the WIAC with a .343 hitting percentage, while ranking second with 1.18 blocks per set, fourth with 3.45 points per set and sixth with 2.77 kills per set. She has posted 18 matches of double-digit kills, including a season-high 18 against UW-River Falls on Oct. 19 and UW-Platteville on Nov. 5.

An All-WIAC first team choice a year ago, Amici becomes the second Blugold to claim the league’s player of the year trophy, joining Abby Freiborg (2008). Amici currently ranks third on UW-Eau Claire’s career list with 360 block assists and 414 total blocks. Her 148 total blocks this season is tied for fifth on the school single-season chart.

Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago included: UW-Platteville’s Briana Kaiser and Ali Sikic; UW-River Falls’ Erin Green; and UW-Whitewater’s Sofia Sanchez. Kaiser and Sikic added honorable mention laurels in 2009.

White has directed the Pointers to a share of the conference title - their first since 1985 - and a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship. The squad also put together an 18-match winning streak and the postseason appearance is the fourth in program history. She is in her 11th season at UW-Stevens Point and owns a 183-190 record.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
