Cornell College Tops 2016 Midwest Conference Preseason Poll

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Cornell College volleyball team won a Midwest Conference (MWC) record fourth straight conference championship last season and is expected to win its fifth straight title this fall, based on the results of the MWC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. 

The Rams earned seven first-place votes to earn 79 total points.  For the last four seasons, Cornell and St. Norbert College have played in the Midwest Conference Tournament title game, and it could be a fifth straight year as the Green Knights are projected to finish second with 73 points.  St. Norbert also earned two first-place tallies. 

Ripon College garnered the final first-place vote and finished third in the poll with 59 points.  Lake Forest College is expected to make a return trip to the four-team tournament after earning 57 points.  Lawrence University finished fifth in the poll with 52 points. 

Knox College was slotted in sixth with 38 points, while Illinois College came in seventh with 36.  Monmouth College is expected to finish eighth (29), Grinnell College is projected to place ninth (17) and Beloit College completes the poll (10).
